Impulse balance in the newsvendor game

چکیده

One striking behavioral phenomenon is the "pull-to-center" bias in the newsvendor game: facing stochastic demand, subjects tend to order quantities between the expected profit maximizing quantity and mean demand. We show that the impulse balance equilibrium, which is based on a simple ex-post rationality principle along with an equilibrium condition, predicts the pull-to-center bias and other, more subtle observations in the laboratory newsvendor game. * Corresponding author: Ockenfels, University of Cologne, Germany, Albertus-Magnus-Platz, D-50923 Cologne, Germany; ockenfels at uni-koeln.de. The Effect of Soccer Ball Impulse on Lower Limbs of the Human Body

Despite the fact that soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world, little attention has been paid to this game scientifically which could otherwise provide a broad range of interesting outcomes. Sport equipment has a significant effect on how a game is played. Different features of the soccer ball such as its size, structure, weight and potential incoming pressure also affect the natu...

Introducing a mathematical model in supply chain with adding trust flow

These day, supply chains (SCs) have become more and more complicated and have extensively expanded and due to these complexities, the supply chain management (SCM) has encountered several uncertainties, and, as a result, trust and assurance between members in SCs has become essential for a successful SCM. Although trust is an inevitable component in nearly all fields in SCs, like cooperation, c...

Large newsvendor games

We consider a game, called newsvendor game, where several retailers, who face a random demand, can pool their resources and build a centralized inventory that stocks a single item on their behalf. Profits have to be allocated in a way that is advantageous to all the retailers. A game in characteristic form is obtained by assigning to each coalition its optimal expected profit. A similar game (m...

Coordinating a Constrained Channel with Linear Wholesale Price Contracts

We show that when a supply channel is capacity-constrained and the constraint is tight, there is a set of linear wholesale price contracts that coordinates the channel while allowing the supplier to make a profit. We prove this for the one-supplier/one-newsvendor supply channel as well as the many-supplier/one-newsvendor channel configuration (with each supplier selling a unique product). We an...

Newsvendor characterizations for one-warehouse multi-retailer inventory systems with discrete demand under the balance assumption

This paper considers a one-warehouse multi-retailer inventory system that faces discrete stochastic demand of the customers. Under the so-called balance assumption (also known as the allocation assumption), base stock policies are optimal. Our main contribution is to show that the optimal base stock levels satisfy newsvendor characterizations, which are in terms of inequalities, and to extend t...
